Coaching in Chaotic Times: Finding Your CALM in the Midst of Change

Presented by Dr. Jim Robey, MCC

Learning & Development Strands: Professional Development

Program Description:

Uncertainty. Complexity. Change. These words define our world—and the coaching clients we serve. Coaching in Chaotic Times is a reflective and practical session designed for coaches who are guiding others through turbulence, transition, and disruption.

Originally presented to the Friends of Government Coaching (FOGC), this session has since benefited over 100 coaches and leaders across sectors. It offers a structured, spacious approach to finding calm when the world around us feels anything but.

Grounded in over 20 years of coaching experience and 35 years of leadership, Dr. Jim Robey, MCC, introduces the CALM model—four anchoring questions that bring clarity, courage, and presence to coaching in uncertain times:

Clarity: What is truly happening here?

Assets: What inner and outer resources can we access?

Loss & Learning: What has changed—and what can emerge?

Movement: What is one next step forward?

This interactive session blends deep reflection, peer conversation, and actionable tools. Participants leave with renewed confidence to serve as a steady presence for those they coach—leaders, teams, and communities alike.

Join us and explore how to coach not just in spite of chaos—but through it—with wisdom, groundedness, and grace.

Learning Objectives:

1.Apply a four-part reflective model (CALM) to support clients navigating complexity, transition, and uncertainty.

2. Demonstrate increased coaching presence and active listening by anchoring conversations in what matters most during chaotic times.

3. Integrate strategies for resilience, resource identification, and forward movement that align with ICF Core Competencies in client sessions.
